"Thalpos-Mental Health" in cooperation with local authorities actively participated in the development of actions to address and combat unemployment, implementing five Actions entitled "Creation of local employment through public benefit programs in the Region of Attica" for the Western, Eastern, Central and Southern Sectors of Attica, as well as the Regional Sector of Piraeus. The project ran from February 2012 to February 2013. An important innovation of the intervention was the activation and participation of public hospitals in social care programmes for the first time.

A total of 704 unemployed people were recruited for the implementation of five-month public benefit actions, who were employed by the following partner organisations:

Municipality of Agios Dimitrios, 85 persons

Municipality of Zografou, 115 persons

Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens, 95 persons

Athens General Hospital "G. Gennimatas", 70 people

Region of Attica, 339 people in the following public hospitals:

  • Regional General Children's Hospital "Aghia Sophia"
  • Athens Regional General Hospital "Alexandra"
  • Athens General Hospital "Evangelismos"
  • General Hospital of Chest Diseases "Sotiria"
  • Special Cancer Hospital of Piraeus "Metaxa"
  • University General Hospital "Attikon"
  • General Hospital "Asclepion Voula"

Indicatively, some of the 39 social benefit activities implemented by the partner organisations include actions related to:

providing personal care services for hospital inpatients,

providing personalised support services for vulnerable groups,

psychological support and counselling for vulnerable groups,

creative activities for children,

implementation of sports programmes,

implementation of environmental actions, etc.

The Programme was co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund - ESF) and Greek national funds (Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Social Solidarity and the Managing Authority of the Human Resources Development Operational Programme), the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) 2007-2013 and the Human Resources Development Operational Programme 2007-2013.
